Mayor Gunter Officially Proclaims December 9, 2021 San Angelo READS! Day at City Council Meeting

Mayor Gunter Officially Proclaims December 9, 2021 San Angelo READS! Day at City Council Meeting

This morning, Mayor Brenda Gunter issued an official proclamation designating this Thursday, December 9, 2021 as San Angelo READS! Day in the City of San Angelo.

Mayor Gunter, the City Council, SAISD administrators and Board members joined together with community leaders from Goodfellow Air Force Base, Shannon Medical Center, Howard College, the Tom Green County Library System and Whataburger to unite in the goal of inspiring literacy and celebrating the community-wide literacy initiative, San Angelo READS!

At the City Council meeting, San Angelo ISD administrators invited the Concho Valley community to join in the fun for San Angelo READS! Day on Thursday in big or small ways, as simple as reading with a child, donating a book to a child in need, or supporting literacy programs in our community. SAISD extends appreciation to all community supporters of San Angelo READS! throughout the year and on the upcoming San Angelo READS! Day.

Stay tuned to the San Angelo ISD Facebook, Twitter, and website, www.saisd.org/read, to see how we celebrate San Angelo READS! Day this year, and share how you and your family celebrate through our hashtag, #SAISDReads.

San Angelo READS!

The San Angelo Reads! community-wide literacy initiative was founded by the District in 2020 to promote and encourage reading and the SAISD future-ready learner profile attributes among SAISD students and the greater San Angelo community. The goal of the literacy initiative is to increase awareness of the importance of literacy and to inspire a love for reading. This exciting initiative is driven by statistics which show how vitally important literacy is to providing all students with the opportunities to succeed at a young age. Children and teenagers who read for pleasure on a daily or weekly basis score better on reading and writing tests than infrequent or non-readers. SAISD is focused on building literacy skills that create students who are prepared for future successes, inside and outside the classroom and beyond their time in our hallways.
